As a scholar and as a teacher, I work towards institutional change. My work is centered on creating college-wide, regional, and multi-institutional partnerships and networks for creative and professional growth, advocating for the needs of faculty of color throughout.
I am a founding member of the Tri-College Asian American Studies Faculty Group, working with colleagues at Bryn Mawr and Haverford to develop curricular and co-curricular infrastructure for Asian American Studies and Asian American students. I have also chaired Mellon-funded regional networks of Asian Americanist faculty through the New Directions in Asian American Studies faculty group, and transnational studies of South Asia through the Futures of South Asian Studies faculty group. Since 2002, I’ve co-organized the annual Genevieve Ching-wen Lee Lecture in Asian American Studies.
I am the Coordinator of Gender and Sexuality Studies Program at Swarthmore, a flagship interdisciplinary program that spans queer and trans perspectives on critical race and ethnic studies in the United States, as well as feminist and queer movements globally. I’m also a longstanding member of the Asian Studies Committee, and am currently an elected member of the Committee on Faculty Procedures at Swarthmore College.
I also work extensively with a range of student groups on campus to develop co-curricular programming in critical and comparative race and ethnic studies, and I’ve shared my experiences as an immigrant and faculty member of color in a commencement speech to graduating Swarthmore seniors.
